The presence of diabetes and poorly managed glucose levels in people with COVID-19 have led to higher death rates and longer hospital stays. Doctors stress that apart from taking adequate precautions like working from home if they’re able, maintaining safe physical or social distancing practices, and proper handwashing, diabetics should try to maintain blood sugar levels “in the well-controlled range.” Insulin therapy if prescribed, should not be stopped. Insulin dose may need to be increased during periods of illness. Make sure there is an adequate supply of insulin.
