The New York Times writes that as women have been less likely to become acutely ill and far more likely to survive COVID-19,  doctors are trying out treating male Covid-19 patients with estrogen and also progesterone, which has anti-inflammatory properties and can potentially prevent harmful overreactions of the immune system. However, there may be other factors at play than just hormones.  The causes of the sex differences are complex and multifactorial, and hormones are only part of the picture.
